I took a year off back in '08, when I got laid after the company I worked at went under and my late wife was having health problems.
I started driving in 1985.
got hired on, in '09, with a company opening up a warehouse/ terminal here and it was like I never left he seat.Still undecided, tscottme, chris_karr and 1 other person Thank this. -

It's cheaper to get a different job than get a different family. When you have a family you need to make decisions for the family, not yourself. I doubt you will have ANY trouble with driving after being out for 1 year.
Magoo1968, slim shady, Numb and 1 other person Thank this. -
I stopped driving for several years. My former company took a chance and let me come back. First time I had been in a truck after all that time off was when I took my road test. I ground a few gears but otherwise had no issues. Went out with some other drivers for a week or so and by then I was driving like I'd never stopped.Still undecided and Numb Thank this.

Yea, now it seems to be different, with Yellow drivers hitting, 2 years seems to be a hard cutoff at the moment.

I had called and talked to a few different companies. The ones that would hire me wanted me to go out with a trainer for as long as two months. Not a chance. And I can understand their reluctance, but as soon as an experienced former driver proves himself he should be turned loose on his own.
