I am not sure where to post this so Ill start here and if the mods know a better place they can move this thread. Starting with the question first, what is the average per mile pay rate for experienced drivers?
Here is the situation. I have been in a lease purchase that ends in 4 weeks. After that I have a buyout that will take about 6 months. So, by September I should own my first truck outright. I am thinking about expanding in the future. What I would like to do is build to an eventual fleet of about 5 trucks. I would lease on to a large carrier so that I have access to their freight base. Since these would be o/o trucks they would be non-forced dispatch. I am thinking of paying a split rate with the lowest pay for the shorter runs.
At this point Im working on the numbers to figure out if this is even worthwhile so constructive comments are appreciated. I am building a business plan that will allow my wife and daughter to run the business should something ever happen to me. More important, I would like to retire someday, or at least semi-retire.
How much would I have to pay to get you to drive for me?

I would be happy just getting hired (I am over weight).

I was thinking that the shorter runs are paid more because you get less miles. Run less, get paid less, run more, get paid more? No one is going to want to do the short runs if you do it that way. It takes just as long and it's just as much work to load and unload, or even drop hook no matter what length the run.
Marywonderdog24 and Lone Ranger 13 Thank this. -
Average CPM for experienced driver is 44cpm (Practical & All Miles), Guarantee of $1200 a week, which will offset the short hauls and the rif-raf at the shp/rec.

0.41 cpm all miles, detention pay 18$ per hour after 1 hour waiting, 15$ per stop and 8$ for drop and hook i think this is a fair what yall think?

Probably a good question for the Experienced Drivers sub heading.
I expect if a driver is experienced he'll be making 60k or better a year. Figure it however you want, if it's less than that per annum it's not enough $ -
Something to consider is that leased to a large carrier their rates may have an impact on if you are ABLE to pay a decent wage and still turn enough profit for the additional expense and liability to be worthwhile

Pay a percentage. That way everyone makes out. And the driver will want to do more work because its more money for him. We pay our drivers 22.5% off of gross
RedForeman and Cetane+ Thank this. -
30% but do you get good rates?
-
Food for thought you want good drivers who will take care of equipment, customers, low turnover, etc then pay em well. Remember you will get what you pay for in the long run. Have you taken a look at some of these student mills some of these companies have?
281ric Thanks this.
