The thing with repair costs is it’s a lump sum of say $5,000 or so. Also you have down time so you aren’t making money while it sits, which means you may end up losing about that amount again in lost revenue. Also figure in a towing bill and figuring out what to do with the load you got on your back and it just ends up being a real headache. The American dream of being your own carefree boss isn’t nearly as carefree as you think often times.
77fib77, Rideandrepair, Carpenter Scotty and 1 other person Thank this. -
The $20 or $30k maintenance/repair fund is just that. If it’s all spent suddenly on 1 repair, you’re in the hole already. Never being able to replace the original fund, because every spare dime is being spent as you go along.
GoneButNotForgotten and OldeSkool Thank this. -
Yeah being an OO is great for time off. I agree a good company job is easier and better in a lot of ways. Wally world guys are making 110k. Gas hauler some guys claim 100 to 150k as a company driver. No issues of repairs, get 401k, health care, ect.... -
If you can't calculate what you can afford, no Internet forum on the planet is going to help you. You need to continue as a company driver until you have the knowledge to make your own decisions, based on your specific financial condition and needs, and the job or work you plan to do.
