I've heard it was the default spec in 2010 or so.

On most tanks its actually written not to fill them above 95 % of there level however some ignore this warning fill it to the tip top and wonder why when they park up specially on a bit of a lean why Diesel fuel is now pouring out of the tank,

I had a 11 pete 389 with it on the right and a lot of newer trucks the same way. Just makes me shake my head.

And most of the pumps don't reach far enough to fill it. I bought tons of the plastic 2.5 gal jugs just cus I didn't want to be the idiot nosed in at the pumps. At night if it was clear I'd pull in the opposite way

    Oh, and to the OP.

I top my fuel off every time. As I only have 120 gal and get 4.0 mpg. I'll burn that extra off just getting back on the big road.

If I get fuel in the morning or during the day. I top it off all the way. It never spills out, and I burn off enough driving all day. That spilling out when I stop is not a problem. That said the filler is not mounted on the top of tank. So even when I fill it to the rim. There is room still left in tank for expansion. Not really sure what the op is talking about or saw. But I'm new I need another 25 years of practice so what do I no? And I have seen a few trucks with the day tank on the right. But there older models from when day first came out. Thier wasnt a standard then, pretty sure all trucks from like 2010-2012 have day on the left.

I think what op is talking about is gas caps with worn out seals on the truck he's complaining about.

Yesterday at the TA on Morgan Road in OKC they had to shut down half the fuel islands.

    Why!!!???

Because some IDIOT spilled about 100 gallons of diesel that poured down across the next few fuel islands. How in the HELL do you let 100 GALLONS of fuel pump out of an already full fuel tank and NOT NOTICE!!!???

    WTF!!!???

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

Wow! That's gonna be a costly clean up job. I'm guessing the driver was sitting in the cab with the cell phone to ear not paying attention. Seems like drivers work harder at doing as little as possible these days.

None of the above. I talked with the manager last night. Apparently that particular fuel spill was because someone drove away from the pump with the hose still in the tank. It's the third time in the last month they've had that happen.
