Im from Melbourne AU, ( where the incident occoured ) and Yes i have ran doubles..
Believe me, 80kph zone matters not at all.. unless there were signs sayign no standing, he was ok.
Lines on our roads only matter for the centre ( broken, double whites ETC )
The end result of this was an attitude adjustment ticket.
all could have been easily avoided, but the cop obviously had to do something for the cameras.

he was blocking a travel lane, causing a back up, cop said so, then another truck swung around him to get back into that lane.... to me, this signifies an illegal parking place....
whatever, he got what he deserves, a $700 dollar ticket.....he must be a rich (albeit) drugged out trucker.... -
Why are you arguing Australian traffic law with an Australian citizen? I think the guy might have some idea what the law is, having to live by it and whatnot. And they obviously don't do things the same way we do them here. Just you try and reanact what you saw in the video in front of any cop in this country and compare. Hell just you walk away from a cop and into the street. You'd get hauled off right then.Last edited: Feb 2, 2011
end of the road, SweetSouthernRide, panhandlepat and 1 other person Thank this. -
Where someone is from shouldn't matter. We've got plenty of drivers right here that do not know the laws.
Where he stopped sure looked like a travel lane to me. I've seen the few specials on road trains down under and they follow the laws almost the same as we do. Common sense plays a big factor here and it's obvious the driver stopped for something to eat and nothing else. Then he takes it beyond any reason and acts stupid. I think he wasn't arrested because of the cameras.LongRoadTrucker and Rerun8963 Thank this. -
Donk is an O/O in AU and has made a success of himself at a very young age comparably speaking to most in this industry. He's done this in an environment that is not at all favorable to the small business man. He's currently making a go of it despite being cheated out of more than $20,000 AU! In addition to this, he's told me on the phone of AU's rules he has to abide by not only as a truck driver, but as a business owner. Some of their government's regulations are just so absurd it would blow your mind to believe it takes place and some people are happy with it. Donk isn't one such person. He's been trying to move to the US for the past 3-4 years.
I tell you all this to tell you that I am completely confident that he is well aware of the rules of the road in Melbourne especially considering the fact that he makes 15-20 deliveries in the Melbourne area every day.
Say what you want about the idiot in that video. Donk is far from that caliber of driver. His statement
Maybe there was a sign and it wasn't shown in the video. We'll never know for sure. But don't go assuming that my good friend "doesn't know the laws".Ken, SweetSouthernRide, panhandlepat and 4 others Thank this. -
i highly doubt any truck driver, from any part of the world, would KNOW ALL the traffic laws over a cop that IS TRAINED to know them... -
Making a blanket statement such as "Truck Driver" made saying we shouldn't dispute another driver from another area just because they're from that area is where my problem started. It's a blaket statement and I personally need more.
However, I do not side with the police or the driver. I believe the driver acted very stupid and I also believe the police officer was looking to write all he could. I do believe it would have been a different situation if the cameras were not there. I think the police should have cuffed him and placed him in the cruiser after the officer suspected he ate something. The police officer and the driver were arguing like kids and the police officer should have took control of the scene.panhandlepat Thanks this. -
In the US, running into the road like he did, is endangering the public. In WA, even in my area, that dude would have been had his butt handed to him.

I'd think Donk has a better idea what the law is where this took place than we do. He's probably drove a truck down that very road whereas most of us have not. We might as well argue Australian HOS or weight limits with him too. Alot of people on here are trying to transpose our laws onto the ones followed over there. For all we know, the driver may have been perfectly legal to park in the road like he did. He might have only needed to point that out to the cop but he chose to act a fool. I am more inclined to side with a driver that actually operates over there than ones that only think they do. Now I ain't bagging on you or nothing as you seem to be the sort of driver that knows his stuff but alot of these guys are really overthinking this without really thinking at all.Scarecrow03 and SweetSouthernRide Thank this.
