Recruiter told me truck driving is like a continuous paid vacation traveling to all the different tourist spots for fun and relaxation. Why would I want to push myself to work long hours on vacation?

I try to drive all of my 11 as much as possible unless my stops are closer than that distance wise. The quicker I'm empty, the quicker I can get loaded. It's all about revenue.

I came close to my 11 typically half a few days during the week with the last hour spent finding parking. Usually that tappered off into the weekend or I might even drive 4 or 5 on weekend days sometimes helping to avoid the Reset. The variation for me came from being Regional/OTR. I stayed mostly near Wisconsin, but would use up more time doing the random OTR run.
I was able to handle the work load, but at the same time I thought it was a bit much spending my life in the driver seat. I have a hard time relating to people who casually accept this as a part of the job or with little hometime to take a break from it. I even kind of like driving, it's just the 11 to 14 as a typical workday I find a bit much. It also annoys me that the industry preaches driver wellness while trying to fit in meaningful exercise in a 10hr break.
So now I've been doing a Yard Spotting gig and usually work 10hrs tops. Sometimes just 8. How about that a regular 8 hour workday? I'm home everyday with weekends off.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
You seriously can't find 30 minutes to do some cardio? Sad.UsualSuspect Thanks this.

I don't remember running 11 hours much. My days were between 6 and 10 hours. I spent a huge amount of time in grocery warehouses. It's hard to spend 3 to 4 hours on a dock and have 11 available.

Outside hopefully about 8hr of sleep and time for meals, washing up, paperwork and trip planning, maybe even relax or read a book, shopping for more podcasts / audiobooks to relieve the boredom, I did sometimes manage in some walking. I guess I didn't feel that was a 'meaningful' counter to my 10 to 11 hours of sitting.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

My run is 450 miles each way. I do it in 9 hours including the 30 min break. I’m tall and have bad knees so I stop prob every 3 hours or so at a rest stop just to stretch and pee for 5 min. Otherwise my legs will begin to hurt. Gotta be careful about blood clots too from sitting long periods.

I understand completely. However, paperwork and trip planning are part of your 14. Ten hours is more than enough time to eat, shower, sleep and cardio. I'm tired of the lame excuses most Americans make to not be able eat right and exercise. Everybody can make better dietary choices and put aside 30 minutes a day for fitness.spyder7723 Thanks this.
