grease weekly, good chance to give it a real good inspection and possibly fix a potential problem before you hit the road Monday.
How often do you grease the entire truck

Loving that little Mack with the axles and big sleeper. Ready to work. I know people pick on the little ones sometimes, but I have never had a mack fail me yet.
Road Killer and Ezrider_48501 Thank this. -
thanks x1heavy. Mack has been a pretty good truck for me, hauls heavy by otr standards but light by heavy haul standards (pretty rare that im ever over 100k lbs) the most its hauled sense iv had it was 117k gross with a 80k lb piece of equipment on a trailer. works very well for what i use it for witch is mostly heavy divisible loads (hopper and dump trailer work) light empty weight but yet still has a big sleeper works hard goes off road and doesn't give me much grief.
your right that some of the large car guys like to pick on it a bit till we start talking empty weights and were both sitting on 7 axles and im 6k lbs lighter empty than they are.Road Killer and Oxbow Thank this. -

jake is pretty weak, probably my biggest complaint about the entire truck. probably the equivalent to a cat on 3cyl. you learn to start slowing way early.
Road Killer and LBZ Thank this. -
The motor all in all has been very good to me, but am convinced jakes are just there to make noise.
As far as grease goes, try to hit everything at 5-6k miles intervals.Road Killer Thanks this. -
if you like your truck grease it every 2500 - 5000 miles. Grease is cheaper than parts and down time.
Road Killer and Big_D409 Thank this. -
Unless Mack has changed, they use an exhaust brake...not a real "Jake/Jacobs" brake. All an exhaust brake does is restrict exhaust flow to load the engine, whereas the jakes bump the exhaust valves & turn the engine into a big air compressor. Exhaust brake is better than dragging your feet...but not much.
bottomdumpin, Road Killer, redoctober83 and 1 other person Thank this. -
macks do have jacobs breaks.
mine does have them, there are also some problems with jakebreaks on the mack e7's iv had a few problems with mine and fixed them. i would bet a lot of the macks with e7's are driving around with out the jakes working as well as they should. even at 100% though they still are kinda weak. but it is a 12L engine as well they are probably on par with a pre-emmisions 12L detroit. witch are weak as well when your grossing 100k lbsAttached Files:
