how often do you sleep at a hotel, if at all?

When I am on the road, I always sleep in the truck... and I like it for I cook in it and the truck is my home. My company would only pay a hotel it the truck were in a shop for a night or more and if I couldn't stay in it... They have offered to put me in a hotel before but I preferred to stay in the truck so I didn't have to carry all my pots and pans and bags around.... It was only one night anyway... I generally stay on the road for 2 or 3 months at a time and then take a week off. I am now taking a week off in a hotel that I paid.

I'm just curious...So you don't have a rent or mortgage ? You basically live in the truck OTR, and when you need some down time you rent a hotel ?

That's correct. I live in the truck OTR. My things are in a storage near company terminal. I always take my "hometime" near company terminal. Park truck there, so they can do the preventative maintenaince and repair whatever is necessary. And I check in an extended stay hotel where I can cook. But after 4 years of this, I am getting tired of carrying things in and out of truck, storage, hotel.... Eventually will buy a 5th wheel trailer and call it home away from the truck.

I never thought I would have so much Joy, and get paid so little, as when I became a Trucker. It's a proud skill all it's own. Not many can do it.

every time we do a restart we get a room..(we run team, well used to til bout 2 wks ago)...usually over 7000 miles a week. so when we ran out of hrs, we got a room..nice to have a break from the truck after it running 24/7...plus that way we could bathe our doggies (toy poodles) etc...

If I stay out 5-6 weeks, a night in a motel midway through that stretch is nice. But if I'm out for 21-24 days (like I'm going back to shortly), I seldom get a room. Kinda depends on my mood and where I am.

Hey Giggles... It feels pretty good to sleep in a bed without the constant noise, trepidation and bouncing of the truck... :yes2557::biggrin_25518: I did team for 6 straight months when I started trucking and I tell you... it was awful... Did only because it was my company's requirement. The truck would almost never stop and I had to cook and do everything else in transit... even take some of my 34 in transit.... not very relaxing and recharging... :biggrin_25512:
