It is indeed a good one. Some drivers even park at the pump, put cones in both sides of the truck and go to sleep

The problem is the attraction effect. 1 truck becomes 10 real quick

Happened to me outside of Boston years ago. I was with USX and delivering to a Dollar tree store. They took their del at night time. Like 10-11pm. After i was empty, i pulled around front & went to bed (no room out back). Anyway about 06:00 some guy starts pounding on my door hollering that this ain’t no F’ing truckstop. I calmy told him i delivered to Dollar tree last night & they gave me their blessing to park here. Showed him my paperwork & he said you’d better be gone by 8 or you’ll be parked in and stuck here untill tonight.

I lol’d and told him ok, i’ll run over to Dunkin & grab a coffee then i’ll roll on out. (Ahh the days of paper logs)

Oh yeah back to the point. When he woke me up 4 other trucks had parked next to me. 1st one seen me sitting there, the next one saw the 2 of us and well monkey see monkey do.

Actually? Most receivers want to see you in the morning. If you can get your daily cycle to end by 4pm in the afternoon. You will have no problem finding a good parking place.

When I was driving, I would park about a half hour outside of a major city. Started my day at 3 am. Be on the road by 4 am and roll through the city by 5 am and avoid 80% of all the traffic. Make my delivery by 7 am and be headed on to some other locale

Aint that the truth! I have some good spots along some of my routes I use sometimes in cities. When I use them I can attract another 3 trucks by the end of the night if I am visible from a thoroughfare.

I use this technique myself. I try to shut down and park no later than 5PM. The next day can leave 3AM, but usually wait till 5AM. Certainly, 3AM when rolling through newark, nyc or new england. All the bear bait containers trucks just roll 70mph in a 55mph the whole way on I95. No bear sees me doing 65mph. lol
