How often should my 2012 Cascadia with the DD15 do a Regen?

It did one shortly after getting it and have went about 800 miles or so and it hasn't done another since then. Is this normal? How often do these trucks/motors do regens? It had a new DPF filter at 300kish and currently has 480k on it. Thanks!

Maybe I am getting passive regens while driving it? Not sure how to tell. Sorry for the questions this is my first DEF/DPF truck!

Yeah.. depends on whether or not you're idling or not.

If you're idling a lot... it's prob gonna regen once per 10hr break.

If you seldom idle... you won't notice the regens... they're passive.

I guess a 12 does require DEF fluid.
If you're using DEF.. it's doing it.

If you asking about the full blown regen, where you have to be parked and the engine screams for 20-30 minutes? not very often unless you do a tremoundos amount idle. I do local delivery's, and pump fuel. unless the I am driving, or the pto is pumping I shut the truck off, I dont idle while in line at the fuel terminal, dont idle during my break unless it ungodly hot outside.

If idle. The engine light will come on at 9 hours. Shut the truck down at 9.50 hours. IIRC.

You'll have to do a regen. Takes 45 minutes.

If idle after that. Plan on 5 hours for the second round. And I think it was close to 90 minutes for the second regen.

Been down that road a few times waiting in Cali for a load out. 12 and 16 models.

The way I tell if it’s doing a passive regen is if the boost gauge drops to zero while coasting in higher gears it means that the egr is off to do a regen. Otherwise it circulates boost through egr and only drops to about 4 or 5 psi on the gauge

OP you can see low temperature regen is in progress(while vehicle is in motion) if you have Scangauge installed and set . Otherwise no way to see when regen started and stopped during driving. No light will show it. If you have scagauge you will see DOC outlet temperature is staying around 800F 2-3 hours while vehicle is in motion. Depending of outside temperature, idled time,...... low temperature regen will start every 150-180 engine hours. Sometimes there will be high temperature regen while vehicle is in motion and DOC outlet temperature will rise up to 1200F. It may take 20-30min. Forced parked regen you can start when dpf is in Zone 1 . You will see dashboard light active idicating that parked forced regen needed. During forced parked regen DPF outlet temperature may reach 1200F. It may take from 20-50 min. If you will not idle a lot you will never need parked regen..

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like everything is working right I just wasn't sure. It is using def so I think I am good. I wasn't sure if a parked regen had to be done much but sounds like it doesn't as long as it's driven and not idled!

No. The exhaust system is dosed with DEF any time the system is at normal operating temperature. DEF has nothing to do with DPF regens. DPF and regens are for soot and ash, DEF is sprayed in after the DPF and reacts with a different catalyst to control the NOx.
