Also stay away from UPS if it involves sorting.

Hey, it's a great way to get in shape! Have a buddy that's now a feeder driver, when he started he was on sort for about a month. After the first 2 weeks of bellyaching about being sore, he was bragging how much better shape he was in.nextgentrucker, austinmike and Moosetek13 Thank this.

Back in January, I had a guy come in for an interview, he had to weigh 450 lbs and he was apply for work with gmc cab over, he said he could get into it but after four attempts it was obvious, he was too fat.
well he knew he didn’t get the job, he was a nice guy but too fat.
he pulls out of the yard, and hits the telephone pole, the cops come and then ems and he was dead.
If you want to drive in this industry, lose weight.nextgentrucker, 77fib77, austinmike and 5 others Thank this. -

I remember when 'Tiny' wanted to come to the tanker company I was at.
Drove an older R800 Mack back when the R Models had square fuel tanks made to mount on either side, bolted to a support at the front and a strap from a cross brace at the rear. He had chains looped up around that cross bar bolted to the bosses on the side that allowed either end to face forward, just in case the strap broke.
His wife would bring him to work in a dodge 'omni' a smaller car at that time and when she made a U turn is appeared that the car spun around on two wheels.
We had a group of like tanks with aluminum ladders that always needed welding and got a major complaint from Union Carbide when a customer had to 'loan' him a ladder after the tank ladder came loose at the top bending outward, they were afraid he would break their ladder and file suit.
He had to pay extra to get that 4X PVC suit of PPE, a lot extra!
Returning from his physical, the boss grabbed the long form saying he waned to see his weight making Tiny remark, "I got a break; the scale stopped at 380#".
I also remember Matlack's safety director reminiscing about that one guy who had to be weighed on the local grain mill truck scale.
OP is far from 'too fat' though there is a lot of physical activity in most aspects of the industry and good eating can only help him stay healthy.
50 is not too old, there are a large number of 70+ drivers out there.W923, Captainmidnite51 and austinmike Thank this. -
The weights not a big problem, like other said they will probably say you need a sleep apnea test. They go by BMI and anyone having a neck size of 16 or more I think. If some has sleep apnea they have wear a mask every night use the CPAP machine 4 minimum house every night. You have show DOT doctor the data so if kinda hard to fake it.
The other big thing is blood pressure and diabetes. You can take blood pressure pills if needed and still drive. I think you can take Metforman to control diabetes but it better to cut back on sugar and carbohydrate stay away from getting diabetesDiesel Dave Thanks this. -
im 6'5 375 and wonder about this im down from 480 tho. ocd is a #####. lol.
nextgentrucker and 77fib77 Thank this.
