As the one who originally asked the question.........I'm the "OP".......
I left driving 12+ years ago to partner with my brother in a Kitchen & Bath remodeling business. My brother got ill so we have now closed up shop and finished with that adventure.
I just turned 66, so I can go back to work and not affect my Social Security or Teamster pension, BUT I don't know if any of these companies will be interested in a 66 year old.
I found this site and originally had the idea that if I went with a lease/purchase I'd have a better chance to be working.
BUT after spending about 6 months reading the various forums I'm SO GRATEFUL that I got THAT idea out of my head, HA!!
I started out by finding a DOT Certified doc and did the medical, only $75.00 out of pocket. Was pleasantly surprised to pass, no problems there.
Contacted several "Big Name" outfits. All told me since I haven't driven in over 12 years they'd only accept me as a student and I would have to do the entire student thing. Never filled out a formal application so nobody ever got wind of my age. I just talked to the recruiters over the phone.
I have over 20 years accident/citation free driving with any number of trucks and dry van, reefer, tanker, doubles, triples (UPS, Oregon) haz-mat loads, blah, blah...Learned to drive on a 1957 two-stick (4&4) Peterbuilt.
I just can't see myself going through the whole Newbie training thing. Don't need it, won't do it. Been trying to find a Co. that would take me on "AS-IS" Don't mind spending 2, 3 weeks, even a month with another driver......."Driver Trainer".........to prove my worth, learn the new electronic logging stuff, etc., .......that's reasonable...........
I THANK!! everyone who has posted RE: my original question.
This site is an incredible resource of information. Nobody could find the information contained within the various Forums, anywhere, at any price anywhere else.
I've enjoyed the countless hours of reading, despite the few obvious "Knuckleheads" and their mountains of BS Manure. But those types are everywhere...Just got to learn how to navigate around it.
Again, THANKS SO MUCH to all who took the time and made the effort to post their ideas and opinions............
How old is too old to be driving?

Did you say you still have your CDL? @Chinatown should be able to help. You should be able to find a company that only requires a refresher course. I think Abilene only requires a couple weeks with a trainer if you still have your Class A lic. Age wont matter since you passed your Dot medical.
Scooter HBG and Chinatown Thank this. -
Give a phone call. They hire drivers that have been of the road 10 or 20 years.
