I'd say that 50 is the average age for a flatbedder. You don't have to be a physical specimen, you just have to be tough. Toughness is a mental thing. You see that load. You see those chains. You see those tarps. You see that weather. You see the clock. You will think to yourself, "Man, there has to be an easier way..." You see those rigs. You see those guys and girls wearing steel toes and cowhide gloves. You see them dragging chains and rolling out tarps. "Hell, if they can do it, I can too!" When you walk into the restaurant, and hear some driver crying, odds are that driver isn't a flatbedder. If he is, he won't be for long. i dedicate my next adult beverage to the chaindraggers. Salute!
Most of these threads turn into a big piss and moan fest about tarping. Hopefully for once it doesn't. We will see.
I got a buddy who is now 74 years young, This ol man still does heavy haul. Plus a couple others I have known are late 60's early 70's still putting us younger guys to shame...
A little off topic but one of my best friends dad pulled belly dump until he was 82. Anyone that's done that up north knows there is plenty of hammering on frozen trailer parts. They took his cdl from him as he kicked and screamed.
Yep. Get the tissue ready. "Crybaby" is the in thing. Grown men crying. One day it will be an Olympic sport.
