The thing that is being forgotten here is that the actual DOT physical is real basic .
Blood pressure blood sugar and vision and hearing .
The max and min for each is spelled out on the forms.

There is no duck walking no neck sizing no BMI or any other crap that these mega crappy companies want you to go through .
There is no requirement for a new card for a new job there is no requirement for another physical for any reason other than expiring.

Maybe the one good thing to come out of this new DOT doctor for physical crap that starts in May is that allot of this crap will stop.
I doubt it but one can hope for at least one thing good to come out of the pending stupidity that our leaders are going to be putting us through yet again .

Being fat is not illegal yet and I am willing to bet that most of the judgmental types here wont be their thin trim sexy self after 3 or 4 million miles.
This fast food crap being rammed down our throats is going to fatten up even more drivers than any of the buffets ever did .

Of course the odds are that 98% you wont be anyway because you wont last that long according to the average length of drivers staying in the business .

The changes in May will have no effect on the mega requirements. They can have more stringent medical requirements and subject a driver to a new physical. The only thing to happen with May is that it will stop many of the false filings of medical forms not performed by a doctor or any medical person.

All doctors will be required to be on the National registry of the FMCSA. If the doctor decides to not be on the registry, he cannot perform a dot physical.

Watch out if you are a smoker too. Smoking in not anymore illegal than being fat, but drivers (who smoke)will now have to succumb to lung and heart tests that they did not have to before. My Dr. told me that most companies will not be willing to pay for these MANDATORY tests.

I went to my regular doctor at the beginning of last year to get my health card updated. He told me that he didn't do them anymore because they make doctors go though training on giving proper certification physicals. I went to another doctor that only does dot physicals. I bet he makes a killing because Averitt Express corporate headquarters and main terminal are about 5 miles from my house. He is very strict and won't let anyone pass unless he gives a through exam

Sleep apnea was a suggestion and not regulation. Congress lost their minds on the fmcsa big wigs during official hearings a few months ago. Said pull the suggestion from the books and do proper field studies. It was all based on one study done by Penn State years ago and the participants were all regional because they couldnt find drivers willing to participate. Thats the very simplistic version of the story I read. Needless to say a lot of clinics stopped checking.
