Hi, I'm Glen, I have always liked the long ride in the truck and wanted to drive since I was a youngin riding with my dad. I would really like to get into this type of career but a couple issues are keeping me from doing so. I do not have a CDL and do not have the money to go to a school to get the proper training, I have been looking over a CDL manual I got from a local drivers licensing center, my dad said that if I couldn't get into a school then I need to find a place that does the full training. I live in central Pa, bout 60 mile outside of Harrisburg, Pa. I wanted to see if any y'all thats been through the whole situation could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Situation as is - I would think dog grooming or fast food is a more likely idea with no experience or liscense. im new and things are not good without connections or experience. Good Luck.

Schneider National Carlise Pa is a good place to start asking questions. CRST Carlise may have training. NAPA in Carlisle but doubt if they offer training. PA offers driver training through community college and can be financed. There is a community college near Hamburg. I always see their trucks at Cabela's. These are just some of the options available but things are slow out here.

Alright thanks for the info. I know things are slow everywhere but this being laid off thing sucks and might as well put the spare time to good use and try doing something I've always wanted to do.

If you're collecting unemployment you might be able to get training through them. In michigan you can do that. Also Knight transport has a terminal in the Harrisburg area.I see that you are 20. You need to be 21 to travel across the country driving a truck. Driving a truck is alot of work but can be very rewarding too.
