How similar is backing long trailers with a fullsize SUV vs backing a truck?

I'm not so sure about that, if I'd never driven a stick anything before a truck I'd have been as confused as some poor ####### who'd never driven anything and then gone to drivers ed. My brother got stuck with one those idiots, he couldn't figure out why the car didn't act like all his video game cars, actually got pulled over on his first day driving in drivers ed for not being able to keep it on the road.

I remember the instructors at my CDL school saying that, as well as my trainer at my first job. I had been driving stick for years and never had trouble figuring out a truck, but I guess some people do. I know what you mean about kids today thinking the world works like a video game.

I have a one ton diesel dually, mostly because I was thinking about going the hotshot route before my dad said to just wait 6 months and get a full size truck. I'll probably never sell my old 05 Cummins, got around 400 horse, takes off like a bat out of hell and will leave a hell of a mark on the next truck that decides to hit me.

Id say ur wasting ur time. Ur better off getting a steering wheel controller and go practice on american truck simulator. The physics on that game are similar to what we do in real life. Still not quite ther e. The game trailer moves faster in real life as in quicker response time when moving wheel, but its still better than a car and tow behind for practice, i couldnt back one of those things up if ya gave me 500 acres.. ,give me a 48ft flat with a 10ft spread and a 104" dock half a mile down a dirt road and ill put it in the hole , cmon!!

If you can back up a 15 foot boat trailer without tying it up in a knot, you can back up anything. I've played ATS, it's not even close.

I actually find it easier to back in a truck at work than I do with a car trailer behind my suburban.

I was in construction before I got my cdl I backed a 18 foot trailer into many nasty spots .. I honestly think a 53 is a piece of cake compared to shorter trailers .. practice with any trailer gives you a grasp of what to expect when backing up.. once you understand what you’re seeing in your mirrors you can transfer that to a larger trailer in a shorter period of time than someone with zero trailer backing experience

I got a short stock trailer and that thing wears me out trying to back it up. It so quickly goes from one side to the other and is nearly jacknifed. Backing up my 42 foot semi trailer is much easier.

    same basic physics.

the longer the trailer,(articulation point to trailer axle ) ,the easier it is.

a road tractor backing up a 20' container is really hard!!! lol, but the principle is the same.
