I've just got 1/4" quick-connects on the truck. My shop runs the 3/8" connections, though, except the line for the big tire gun which has the 1/2" connections. I've been debating swapping to 3/8" on the truck, but the 1/4" connections move enough air to power any tool I have on the truck. The important number to pay attention to is the CFM. Most 1/2" guns, 3/8 drills, and 4" cutoff wheels are well below the capacity of the truck's compressor's ability to keep up. You might have to idle up a little if you find yourself depleting the air supply...but once you do that, you'll be fine.
How strong is my trucks air compresor?

I used a center hole on my air tank which is 1/2'' I believe and installed a quick connect female coupler to connect a 1/2" air hose to it.. I own a 379 Pete so my air tank is right above my battery box and the coupler is easy to reach. I run my big gun from this port to remove lug nuts with no problem.. If your air tank is hard to reach you may need to run a piece of hose and place a quick connect couple where it can be reached easily.. I would recommend to set it up so you can connect a 1/2" hose and if you need to use a 3/8" hose simply use a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter.

I've noticed 3/8" air line has 1/4" quick connects at each end.

First chance to respond. Gone through this.
I have a 1/2" air hose with 3/8" connections on each end. You need to change the connections on your air gun to 3/8" also like a garage does. You should also have a spare plug on your air tanks you can put a 3/8" quick connect. You can get them at Home Depot in brass. Also while you have the connector in your hand go to the hardware section and get a rubber boot to cover it up. Before putting on the boot spray the connector with some type of oil. Not WD40. That's fish oil and disappears quick. WD40 is good for spraying all over your winches before loading and making a mess of the ground because it goes away.
You will only be able to use your air gun for a short period of time. My truck kicks on at 90 and shuts off at 130. You need to put your truck on high idle and almost need someone inside to say GO GO GO when it reaches 120 then back off at 100 then back on at 120.icsheeple Thanks this.
