Western Express
first of all im pretty happy at my local milk hauling gig, i just came across this ad. 3 months to be a trainer? 75K per year? yeah right. it says $0.50 per mile and 1,800 miles per year........ that's ONLY $46K per year i can do basic math. LIES LIES LIES. i make $56K of actual money driving locally NOT paying for living expenses, and more importantly being home with family when im not working.. my boss gave me some driving training to transition into a semi from a dump truck. he has been driving for 35 years, someone who actually knows how to drive and how to pass it on...... a veteran driver. 3 months LOL. what a joke
i read this crap and no wonder there is a driver shortage.
how stupid do they think we are

You didn't mention accessorial pays; just mentioned milage pay.
Milage pay is only a portion of the total pay package of trucking companies.
I pulled hazmat tankers and my milage pay was .36 cpm, but at the end of the year had made $65K and that's with taking a month off for an overseas vacation.
Not every driver wants to be home every day for various reasons.Lepton1, Dan.S, Oldironfan and 4 others Thank this. -
Dont forget the lot lizzards! Ya get much more variety when runnin OTR then local!Woodys and SingingWolf Thank this. -

i have no use for lot lizards. i prefer to go home with my wife and have a normal married couple life if you know what i mean.
i think you would be lucky to break 50K working for western express, they are known trash of the industry. $75K..... you wont make that. -
The add says 50 cents a mile OVER 1800 miles a week no mention of the rate under 1800 miles

I do laugh at the advertisements though. They base the 50cpm off whatever rate they’re giving plus the accessorial for x miles in a week. All smoke and mirrors. I see this week in week out in my paystub. My company lists it every week in my check. -
The easiest way to fix any "driver shortage" is to stop using pay structures designed to screw the driver. Mileage pay, percentage pay, pay by the load, and pay by the day are all different methods of doing the same thing. Shorting drivers pay. Hourly is the only honest pay method.
My company pays by the day. I get to the farm and the milk isnt cold enough to load for example. I sit and wait for an hour..... No additional pay. This week I probably have 4-5 hours worked additional and nothing additional to show for it in my pay.
I'm getting experience, but will probably eventually move on to something hourly.Toomanybikes Thanks this.
