Don't forget to turn your signal off,,,:biggrin_25518: seriously, I think people expect too much from a trainer. They aren't miracle workers, either you have it, or you don't. I'm reminded of when I was a lad, taking guitar lessons. After a spell, the teacher said to me, "well, I've taught you all I know, rest is up to you". Years ago, "what training,?" People didn't need to be taught how to drive a truck, just how to load something new. Today, these poor trainers are starting at ground zero, people that sold cosmetics ( or whatever) are now forced to drive a truck, how hard could it be, then mjd is posting their lack of success down the line.

I really wanted to learn backing and shifting straight away and I was blessed to have a trainer who cared about what he was doing so that came more easily.

What I should have paid more attention to was trip planning, fuel solutions, and staying on route. But that all improved with experience.

When I finished training I couldn't shift or back worth a crap, and could barely do my paper logs. But they gave me a truck and sent me on my way.

I’m fortunate I was taught this in training but most people don’t seem to have been:
Patience, it’s not all about you. The guys rushing through the truckstop, cutting behind someone as they are backing into a spot, parking in the fuel island, won’t back out of it for a few seconds to let someone slightly faster around, ect. They people are selfish and ignorant most of the time. This is honestly my major gripe with driving a truck for a living.

unfortunately this is more of a societal issue and less of a truck driver issue.

I wish I was shown how to fixes simple stuff and not have to learn while on the phone being told what to do and hoping I don't mess it up more
