Just wondering when they co. says they require experience, is it OTR strictly or would years and years of local work do ? I mean I've done all they do except sleep in my truck..well I did that too, on lunch breaks![]()
How they figure experience ?

Usually means OTR, but not always, call the company and ask

Yeah I figured it would just vary by company.

I was local for 10 years and wanted to come back on the road. Made boo-coo phone calls, every company said, sorry, local is meaningless, until I talked with C.H. Dredge ( taken over by Prime since) and FFE out of Dallas. Went with FFE. This was in the mid 90's. Not sure about FFE today.
Wargames Thanks this. -
Most of the time they will state what type recent or local. Some of the over the road companies want recent experience that is sleeping in the truck or hotel

That's what confuses me, how is it useless.
I mean navigating 53f in heavy city traffic and bumping docks off the alley-ways, pulling doubles on short OTR hauls..
pretty much do everything but sleep in the #### cab for 10 hrs.
We all had to do log books every once in a while.
I beg for one them companies to explain to me how is that experience useless versus being strictly OTR seasoned ..Wargames Thanks this. -

Why would you go back to OTR if you do local now?At lease your home every night and don't have to worry where to park the truck at night to sleep..

Well, local freight is slow, so I'm laid off from my current local job.
I was just wondering about this, but have not thought about scales, border crossing, etc.
88 you are right, I would not do OTR, maybe regional but never out for weeks at the time.
As matter of fact, when I got my CDL years ago I started with a union outfit because I worked dock there.
Therefore, I never done OTR work. And by reading around here, I don't think I ever could (be away from my family) for extended periods of time.
Like I said this question always bugged me, but AT made some good points I have not thought about.
