Here's a link to a pretty good thread.
It's a list of questions, and you ask the ones that are important to you.

The way i got my job; I walked into the office and asked to speak to the person responsible for hiring, I was told that person was out of the office at the moment and givin his cell number. I called and explained that i had just finished my 8 week training course and had got my licence and was looking for a job. I asked if there was a convienient time for him that i could come in and talk to him in person.I went in the next day , he asked a few questions about the school i went through and about my past work history. I gave him 2 references and said i would step out of his office for a moment while he called them. I went back in and was asked if i would like to take a road test, I took the road test and was on the road 2 days later with a full time job! The company wasnt even hiring at the time but the boss man pulled an old truck out of the yard and called a part time driver to ask if he would show me the ropes for a month. I have been on my own for 12 months now and loving it. The right attitude is all you need, go in and talk to them and show that you are ready to work and ready to go!

One thing I have found in the trucking industry is that the harder it is to get a job with a particular company the more worth it the company is.

Thanks everyone for the input and ideas, had no idea about a "pre hire" letter. I plan on going in on Friday when everyone's in a good mood for the upcoming weekend, seems like the best day compared to Monday.
