For you..... and it's your truck, pay yourself a salary. For the bank, to buy a home, 2 yrs past taxes ( 1040's ). New business, submit business plan, 6 months bank statements. Contracts if you have them.

Bank won't talk to you? Hire a mortgage broker. Times are tough right now so cash is king. The less you need to make the deal, the better.:biggrin_255:

Lot of truth to what you say and what Paddington said regarding the LTL side.. There is a balance that some strike and some don't - my issue/point is that if I'm gonna be out on the road for a company I fully expect to be compensated for every minute of that time, and sadly to me, many drivers are not only willing to work for substandard wages, but make excuses for why they're not compensated fairly for all their time..

Although I was probably enjoying life a bit more when I ran P&D here, I decided to run line-haul since I had the opportunity to make that kind of money at my age and was determined to be debt free.. My initial goal was to be 100% debt free by the end of my first line-haul year and I did it in 6 months which I was so proud of - was just banking money the rest of the year then Con-way paid me to move.. Figured what the hell, I can make even more on this night run so let's do it.. Not trying to gloat but I'm #### proud of the fact that I now bank/save/invest in some way about $700 a week now since all I have is rent and monthly bills.. Almost seems to me at times that I almost have the responsibility to get ahead since I can even though I'm not really sure if it's worth it.. I have never been married, have no kids, don't own a house, and feel at times that my drive to get ahead is why that is so but at the same time want to be set when it happens..

That said, since I feel I've made some pretty major sacrifices to set myself up for the long-term, and I don't have any sympathy for those that have not.. I don't know where this is gonna go but I know I'm doing this for too long - maybe buy into franchises or all the investing I've done since 16 will pay off?? Not sure but one way or another I'm gonna keep working hard to get there right.. If it doesn't happen it won't be because I didn't try and work my butt off to get there which is the case with so many people..

I guess we'll see.. To Paddingtons point about LTL, P&D is the only way to go for 80% of LTL drivers with families unless you have enough strap to run day line-haul.. It's probably harder work per hour but you can have a normal life - you really can't running night line-haul..

After the book I just wrote I guess my main point is that if I'm doing it for a trucking company they're gonna pay me for it..
