The right tire pressure gauge helps too. Big difference between the straight head and the angled head when it comes to gauging the inside tires

I got a 4lb hammer that I use to check tires.
I so got use to it,that I can tell if pressure is off by 7-10 psi.

Also got a digital gauge....very good investment! Something around $50...

Little bit more expensive than a couple of valve stem caps, but super singles solves the inner tire issues you are experiencing.

Other than replacing your drive tires with super singles, as already stated, pass through or flow through caps and a straight head air pressure gauge make a big difference in the ease of checking your tire pressures. Even though you have already ordered them, in case others are wanting some, Love's sells them with their TirePass advertisement station and you can get them for $1.49 each at any Speedco.

Are you sure that's a DOT violation? Not saying you are wrong but I've never heard that it is and I've had pass through caps on steers before.

Not that the laws always make sense but I don't see why it should be a problem. The reason caps should be used is that when they aren't, sometimes you get dirt in them and when you check your pressures the valve will stick open, and you can't get it to stop leaking sometimes without removing the core. With pass through caps the dirt gets in the valve on the cap sometimes but you can just remove the cap and clean it out if it sticks open. It keeps dirt out of the stem valve just as well as a regular cap.

It's one of those things I remember reading on here somewhere, and there was some reason given for it being legit, but if I had to point to where it is written in the green book, I would not be able to.

Not a fan of the pass-through caps. Had them stick open after sticking the tires and ended up with a flat and an OOS at a scale.

Pass through caps aren't illegal on steers.

Crete has the pass thru caps on their steer tires, I've been DOT'd and never heard anything about them, nor have I ever had my tires checked with a guage during an inspection.
Now odds are out of 5,000 trucks, if they got ticketed 5 times a year, they would put a regular steel cap on the steers, so, I call bs

Just park next to one of us and you could have 18 pass thru caps

I have them on all my tires. I passed a level 1 in California so I'd say they're ok.

Ok, I just did some digging. Definitely no fed regs on the subject. In fact, I don't see valve stem caps being required at all.

There may or may not be various state requirements to that effect. There do seem to be some inspectors in a few states who have certain ideas about what is required, even if they can't back it up with a regulation.
