You are human, not a dog. All it takes is 70 degrees outside to push the interior temperature above 100 degrees. Sure fuel is high, but your comfort and health is higher. I wonder how else they try to save a dollar at your expense? Anybody changing jobs should ask... Do you have an APU or am I allowed to idle in extreme temperatures? They answer no...okay sorry, I'm not interested.

Only some states have those exemptions. The attachment which I got from another post here that another user posted shows many of them. Between the exemption you mentioned and the "in the sleeper" exemption most have you covered but you can't always use one rule to assume you're legal.

I sit corrected. However, I should have elaborated a little more as the laws coincide with what I was thinking.

I agree. As a driver you have to make the sacrifice between fuel burn and comfort.

wouldn't anti-idling be from idling the trucks when we are away from them, like on the loading docks, eating our meals, showering and such..???

"for driver comfort", IDLE THAT ENGINE to either stay cool and get your PROPER REST/SLEEP during any temperature YOU FEEL is TOO HOT FOR YOU, then in winter IDLE THAT ENGINE to stay warm...

i say BS to any of these companies that think ANYONE should try and rest/sleep without proper heating/cooling devices....and if they are THAT ANAL about idling..and write you up..and give you grief..??

go look the A-holes in the face and tell them "YOU SLEEP IN A HOT BOX, I AM A HUMAN BEING"....

maybe it's time you found another company...???

Ask them which costs the company more: A few gallons of fuel or your truck in a ditch?

And yet some of us wonder why the larger companies have a high turnover rate (pun intended).

Getting around trucks that will not idle is as easy as a stick cut to a length so when jammed between the seat cushion and the pedal it raises RPM and keeps truck running.
The law is another question and up to you to obey or not.
Years ago this was our cruise control.
No driver should be forced to sleep without heat or air conditioning.
A company asking this be done would never be my choice, but many new drivers have to take whatever job they can get.
    Leaving windows open invites trouble.

Or you could just turn on the cruise control. It raises the ilde by a whopping 100 RPM. When all else fails, RTFM. ;)

How about anti idle rules for reefers? Or is that load of dead meat worth more than the driver?:biggrin_25523:

If only the rules were uniform across the states.
