And I'm wondering how long it will be before all trucks are mandated to have them.
    I'm guessing 5 years, tops.

Bull feces. No way. Your just over rationalizing your decision to accept one.

IMHO One way to "fight the man" on this issue would be the, "twitter effect." If twitter can change the outcome of a presidential election, then why not try?

If enough people got on twitter and warned people that Swift and other companies are doing this, it might cause them recruitment headaches.

They might have to explain themselves.

    Tweets like, At-Swift-your-boss-watches-you-change-into-your-tighty-whites-yikes!

    and Millis-your-supervisor-knows-you-ain't-got-no-panties-on!

    would get people paying attention.

The "we have too many drivers and too few trucks" attitude is a huge part of the problem. Shut down the tap on them, they'll start acting better.

Or, else just roll over. Here's some cream. You know they're doing it for you, after all.

    Big Brother never goes away.
If the tech is there, it will be used.

And if some politician can make the case, it will be mandated for everyone.

How lame was/are the new rules for a 34?
That hasn't gone away yet, it is only suspended for a time.
Some moron get's a bright idea, and the next thing you know it is a law.

    I'm not over rationalizing anything.
E-logs are on the way in for everyone. How far behind can camera's be?
A camera is a tool that is very useful to too many concerned parties.

    No way?
    Bull feces.

Twitter and other social media won't make much of a difference.

It would take a MASS exodus of drivers in protest, and that is not very likely to happen.
We all have bills to pay, and obligations to meet.

I might find employment elsewhere if this is imposed on me at Swift. But I doubt that it would last very long before I was faced with accepting it industry wide.

Funny how the only place a potential federal mandate on these stupid things is mentioned is here on TTR. Sometimes I think there are "drivers" who ENJOY getting bent over by the companies they work for so much they have a yearning for the government to tell the companies that they MUST bend their drivers over just to be sure they don't accidentally hire on with a company that WON'T bend them over.

The federal government has nothing to gain by mandating their use. It can't realistically be used to enforce the regulations, and much like e-logs, will lead to driver harassment by the companies. That driver harassment issue that got the 1st attempt at an e-log mandate tossed STILL has not been addressed, so any new attempt WILL find itself back in the courts with the same likely outcome. I realize some of you want to have the company watching your every move...and if that's what you want, there are plenty of companies that are more than willing to do that. You don't NEED a federal mandate in order to work for them. However, in order for them to compete in the free market for drivers and freight, they need the government to impose the bottom-feeder business model upon the entire industry...increases operating costs, decreases options for drivers, and allows for lower driver pay. If that's what you want, go work for a bottom-feeder and you can run under their business model. The rest of us will fight these mandates because we still value liberty.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." --Benjamin Franklin
