But it's a "small family company" where you have to "know someone to get on with them". His words. Who does he work for? Charles Manson trucking? If that was my family, I would disown them all.

Get in a accident with tape over the camra trying to hide something, chances are your going away for a long time.
Better off just finding a different rather then tampering with safety equipment. -
Worst case scenario you'll face for covering the camera lens is termination from the company if/when they find out...which if they are putting driver-facing cameras in the trucks, they aren't worth working for in the first place.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
I would put my fingers up my nose to the knuckles.......... and keep slamming on the brakes.
Then wait for the message that I have been terminated.
I would happily leave any company like that. -
I work with facing driver/road camera and I had a crash.
It only saved about 7 seconds. A little before, a little after the crush.
The insurance company got the movie and I was the star, lol.
the good thing is that they didn't go for a lawsuit even if my truck was totaled and yes even if it was my fault. The camera is there just to protect the driver and the company, they sign an agreement not to use the camera against my company or against the driver.
The only thing I'm not comfortable is that if the police finds the camera, if it's your fault they'll take the camera and they'll see the damage, so you can be pretty much f#####.
Anyway for the curious ones, it was because of the black ice the accident. -
How to deal with the camera? Easy.
Either cope, or leave. You need to decide for yourself which is the correct choice for you.
Were you hoping for something more existential?truckon Thanks this. -

I see that Swift has announced that they will be putting the driver facing cameras in all their trucks. Honestly, I just can't understand why companies see this as a cost effective move. Why not spend that money on things that actually increase revenue or decrease expenses? Since the bigger carriers are self-insured, I suppose they cost justify it by thinking this will reduce liability expenses but that seems dubious to me. Maybe I'm wrong and this is the best thing since sliced bread and saves the company millions. Someone convince me this isn't complete hogwash and a waste of money.

True that...
... you get the truck rockin' and set off the motion sensors.
