I worked nights before I went back OTR so my wife was used to sleeping alone and my kids seeing me a few hours in the evening before I left for the night, so it wasn't a real culture shock when I went OTR. My wife puts me on speakerphone so I can talk to our little one (she's 2) and my oldest (15) has her own phone. I get back nealy every weekend so its not as bad as it could be.

Just see how it goes over time. My wife hated me being gone the first month or two. After that she didn't mind it much.
Now I've been local for about 4 months or so. I was offered a dedicated that I'd make significantly more than what I do now but I'd only be home every other weekend. I told me wife expecting the "I don't want you to leave" and instead she didn't even give a second of thought and said, "You can't say no to that money!" I think she wants to get rid of me hehe. -
You spoke vows to this woman of your own free will on your word as a man you should put nothing before her, not even a job you enjoy. She should be your joy.
Of course me being a card carrying bachelor who will be enjoying the single life for the foreseeable future it's easy for me to say.....Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
I worked regional so I was home every weekend. This might be a option for you, check and see if your company has regional runs or check around for one that does.
Wife is driving with me now so, being home isn't a problem anymore! -
ooohhhh ooohhhh i know this one...
a remote control car ...right???
sometimes in marriage you have to compromise.......she should be happy that you have a job, but if she is misearble you need to do something that works for BOTH of you....once you married, it stopped being ALL ABOUT YOU and only your wants and needs....now its about BOTH of you...not an expert by any means, but married for 20 years in march...you gotta meet in the middle....i agree with ya sharp dressed....nothing should come before your mate....U4EA, CondoCruiser and Wargames Thank this. -
Yea,she had it made. She never worked a day the whole time we were together. She drove a new car and lived in a nice home...
She blew it!
She had the nerve to beg me to take her back....lol! NO freakin way!
Best thing i ever done was divorce her!
Last i heard she was in jail for passing fake checks! And was arrested for selling prescription drugs.
So glad i'm not involved of any of that! Or having to pay her legal fees....Logan76 Thanks this. -
Times are tough. The man is doing his best to support her. There are many professions where a man needs to be away from his family. She needs to get over it or leave. A driver does not need that sort of distraction haunting him in this business. High maintenance people are a lifelong pain in th ### anyway. Of course that just MY opinion.
EZ Money, ricrey99 and NewNashGuy Thank this. -
I would always put family before the job, if you were working over the road when you got married, that's one thing, she know what she was getting into, but if you just decide you want to work otr after, I don't think that's fair. the only way marriage works is if everybody's happy. and if shes not getting what she needs from you then she will move on, plain and simple. so then you just gotta decide if shes worth keeping

When they quit being all smiles as you walk through the door home after a long trip out it's time to worry. I read this entire thread last night and saw a lot of myself in some of the comments. The bad part of me. Sometimes I am guilty of taking the stress home with me. It's difficult, if not impossible at times, to forget about the business entirely on your off time. Never had that problem as a company driver. So I send my little woman a text last night about 4am asking her if she was asleep, like I used to always do when I couldn't sleep, and my phone lights up with a call. I could tell just that small thing made her day and I can't wait to get back home later tonight, or early Sat morning.
