    the rear axle should still be at the 40 ft setting, centered, as I inderstand it.

    As per the very simple formula I posted previously:
    53-2-40=11. 11' from the rear

    I was being difficult. What he wrote assumed every 53' trailer had a 3' setback kingpin, which ain't necessarily so.

    STexan already solved the issue at # 8 page 1 but some here cant read and understand and end up turning it into a book.

    Also btw. The California 40 foot issue we're discussing is not truly a "bridge law" I've read that California instituted this when 53 foot trailers were introduced and they immediately began seeing problems at some of the tight entrance and exit ramps scattered around the state.
