A good truck stop is one where you are not waking every two hours to knocks on your door. One where there is lots of parking.

If you want to make money driving you will find that buying each meal is thousands of dollars per year. You will be saving much money buying food and stocking a fridge. Treat yourself to a restaurant meal every once in a while. Truck stop food is not a treat.

Most truck stops sell a pocket sized truck stop guide for about $6. Get it. It gives the mile marker location of truck stops and rest areas on freeways for each state. Before I got my Rand McNally GPS this was my "go to" source for decision making. My copy is a few years old, but I marked it up with notes on additional locations and a star rating for rest areas and truck stops.

I disagree, as long as a person isn't loaded with debt or bills, enjoy every meal and have a great time.
But then I'm an old hermit,

    ^^^ THIS ^^^

If you simply untether yourself from HAVING to eat at a restaurant or truck stop, it opens up a HUGE variety of places you can park that will give you much better sleep. When OTR I used my 30 minute break to shower at a truck stop or shop at Walmart. That way I had a lot of options at the end of the day.

In my book the best nights are waaayyy off the beaten path, real quiet, and nobody there to hassle you or run a squeeling reefer next to you.
