Right now mostly dry freight. I have various lumber loads, but they are cheap and won't load a refer and plastic pellets out of Oregon and Washington to CA. Then I have foam boards running out of CA. I can usually set up $2/MI round trip. I have been trying to get some of the fruit packers and food processors around here to let me quote some rates, but for some reason they have all signed an annual contact with another 3pl and say they can only go through them, check back in January when the contract is up.
How to find shippers?

Shippermate.com which is part of Truckstop.com has thousands of shippers. But yes, you are going to have to call them.....all over the states. Work on particular lanes. I am just starting also as an agent broker. I mail out 50 letters and Business cards a week. Starting next week I will call the ones I mailed. Got my fingers crosses! I know it's not going to be easy but I love this business. We own a truck , he drives, I work from home. When we get our own authority then I'll broker our own loads. All looks good on paper...lol!

Bumblebee, it is great that you have a truck. A lot of shippers only want to work with asset based carriers, but will let you broker out loads. I am working as a 3PL now, but have been thinking about getting a truck and trailer and finding a like minded driver who wants to drive 3-4 days a week and look for loads from home to either move ourselves or broker out.
