any chance maybe possibly potentially it could have anything to do with having greased the clutch release bearing twice over its 500k miles lifetime

when I first got the truck brand new, if it was ever pointed uphill even by a few degrees and you would ask for a downshift while moving, it would slam 5th gear in so violently, irrespective of momentum (ie it's not like 5mph of deceleration happened between asking for 5th and 5th actually going in). Some kind of sensor confusion regarding vehicle pitch, not clutch related

450k miles later that hard shift issue came back, if nose is pointed up even slightly, but now going from N to 1st or 2nd, it slams 1st or 2nd in so hard to sound like it wants to twist a drive shaft. ie stopped on the shoulder pointed up towards exit intersection, stopped on a customer yard ramp pointed up towards a high spot in yard

also thinking it's something to do with a clutch brake sensor, when it won't go into gear from neural, it's exactly like if you try to select a gear without foot on brake, it just beeps and doesn't go in. if it slams the gear in from neural, it feels like (why or how is there even any power connected to clutch when coming from neural with my foot still on the brake )

if it moves a couple inches, or if reverse can go in, then it can find 1st or 2nd, but it's like clutch brake still spinning, 1st or 2nd grabs HARD and rocks the whole truck back and forth. weird thing though if you go N to 1st or 2nd again, it bucks hard af again exactly the same way, the only way it gets un-confused it seems is drive a bit and run through more gears. I thought that would mean a clutch problem, ie the clutch isn't able to make clean separation from power, but other days when the sensor(s) isn't confused, 1st or 2nd falls into place with a little *click click just like normal, and take off from 1st 2nd or 3rd is a smooth as new, clutch itself is fine, shifter is fine, when the sensors aren't confused, or the clutch brake actually works

don't know if it's still any help but my trans default start gear is 2nd, if i would ever shut it down in 1st or 3rd, startup was iffy, sometimes it didn't know where it was, sometimes it wouldn't let the truck start at all until u release the brake and let the truck move a bit. after consciously making sure it's in 2nd before shutting down, haven't had a single trans problem or hiccup since, 680k miles now.
