Shippers don't seem to be minding, I have seen a time or 2 on the load board "driver must speak English" under a posted load. If they would start refusing/turn away drivers with extreme language barriers or very poor/shoddy looking equipment, maybe that might help some too.

It's amazing how many drivers shove a phone in your face, with whatever they are saying being translated into English, and then expect you to speak into the phone and give it back to them, and back and forth we go. Just for basic instructions on where to back in, etc.

I always wonder how they get anywhere, never mind pass their tests.

On the one hand at least they are working and conceivably paying taxes. As opposed to sitting and collecting entitlement checks.

Yes that might be lipstick on a pig.

Illegal aliens are renting Uber & Lyft accounts from people that pass the Uber & Lyft ID & insurance requirements & driving paying customers from A to B. The illegal isn't passing any background check, driving with a valid driver's license, providing insurance. If the illegal assaults the customer, or worse, there is no way to ID the driver.

Carriers bill the shippers and pay the drivers by the mile but truck movement is regulated by the hour.

Until this discrepancy is resolved, nothing will fix this industry.

I agree, it did, it was left rotting until the internet, and the load board, and then it was dismembered.

One of his convictions was for obstruction of justice - he tried to shut down the investigation into the cash for licenses.

In the larger picture, the license scandal is what got investigators the warrants needed to find proof of what everyone knew - that the Secretary of States office was pay to play.

I can see having the trucking company that employs the truck driver made to be responsible for his or her actions:
    1) However, how does shipper/broker fit in as far as the truck driver's skills are concerned?
    2) The shipper/broker is not the one employing the truck driver.

When you say criminally liable, are you referring to very heavy fines, prison sentences, or both?
