How to get a Union Job

Your story sounds good could you give me some information on how to get a job like that

 

Just heard on the news tonight Yellow is closing it's terminal in South Bend,IN and offering relocation to 60 workers.Roadway is laying off 60 of 180 workers by March 1.

 

Can you help in the search of a union employer who hires someone just out of cdl training school? have worked for cwa company in past. have clean dmv. thanks

 

How to get a union job? I interviewed at UPS. The first thing the guys says (or words to the effect) "who do you know?"

My daddy was a teamster. They (Branch) had a policy of NOT hiring family members.

Out west you can get a Teamster job in construction by signing up at a local with a heavy construction hiring hall and paying inititiation plus hiring hall registration fees.
Off course there are some major cons in this line of work, but if you like dump trucks, gravel, dirt, asphalt, it's for you. Openings are mostly in the spring and summer, and some locals are unable to find enough qualified drivers, although they never make it known, the companies will usually hire trucks to make up the diff. They usually ask for 2 years of construction experience, but there are those who got in with less time and no construction exp. at all.
For rookies there are construction teamster apprenticeship programs in some areas, but are very selective. Just my .02cts.

 

Even with things going poorly at the moment. I can identify the "stereotype" because of the nature of the people. My local is running itself into the ground because they elect based on popularity instead of qualification. It turns into a boy's club since the uneducated, egomaniacal homeboys quickly realize they're in over their head and just turn the union office into a hangout. We're stuck having to resolve issues ourselves because of a lack of representation. I said to a young fella just this morning, "I can say one thing about the Union, it affords me protection from "at will" employment. But right now, that's all I can say." Yes, I'm in Detroit and no, his name isn't Tony, it doesn't matter anymore. It's my own fault as well as the others in my unit for what as happened to us.

 

Try Coca-Cola Enterprises. Type that in Google search and post your resume and do a job search on their website. Good luck.

 

People seem to forget that the Teamsters also represents most railroad workers. I find that remarkable since all the truckers and railroaders fight so much against each other.

im a 3rd generation teamster, i started out at roadway, 18 years old learned how to yard jockey

business there was very slow, i wasnt getting many hours...hopefully you are still making your money

im glad to be a teamster and think the union gets a bad rep from the days of jimmy hoffa senior
