In theory yes, BUT i think there's a good chance you may get "lucky:"
Here at ups, within about 4 months i was able to get a pretty good route in one of the more affluent parts of our area. i now feel that this route is not "that good." But at the time i did.
But this just goes to show you that a lot of it is all about perception----you would be surprised what some people consider a "good run" vs. what is a "bad run." Some drivers actually like staying in the city vs. a more rural route. There tends to be more inside deliveries in the city, not to mention the traffic etc.
Same with Auto Truck; When i first started i was like 857 out of 860 drivers. But i could get really long runs because a lot of drivers just don't want to be away from home too long.
So, i don't feel you are necessarily automatically screwed if you are low in seniority.

As a YRC driver, for now anyway, it's easy to see why they are in the shape they are. Management has no balls when it comes to expectations or discipline and the amount of bs that gets put up with is unreal. Working in a dark terminal amplifies the issues. Until they decide to weed out the lazy, property destroying idiots who skate by they will continue to flounder and deservedly so.

Say what?! Am I misinterpreting that? I'm sure I am. -

It is bs if or when someone comes to work with malicious intent towards the company and/or coworkers. That shouldn't be ignored. -

Having been on both sides of unions. If management does not use the contract to control the dead weight, moral gets run down. Performance minimizes and yes sabotage is present.

Another way to maybe find a union gig, is some union halls might have a bulletin board of job openings. i know at one of the halls i was out of (i actually had to belong to two separate locals even though both jobs were teamster----this was when i just joined UPSF and was leaving the jockey position, will explain in a sec)............
...........One of the halls i was out of did have a bulletin board right as you entered. AND actually the actual position i was getting ready to leave was among one of the job openings that was posted. i noticed this as i had to go into the hall to take care of some business. My shop steward had already posted it knowing i got the gig at UPSF at could not work full time anymore at that jockey position.
So some halls may have listings, other may not. i don't think the one and only hall i'm out of now has one.
BTW, do not overlook jockey positions---some of them are union and some of them you really don't do much work and get paid a lot to do little.......................
