Hello out there,
I am a haul truck operator on a mine site and for some reason i dont seem to be able to get under the digger properly to get loaded.
The timing of when to que up and then go under the digger seems very random especially with a dozer pushing up nearby.
Does any one have any tips that would make me more comfortable while getting loaded?
Cheers!
how to get under the digger properly

Operators should have bucket in the air loaded when you pull up. Back under it and he'll hit the horn or start dumping material in your box when your good. When he's done he'll hit the horn again. However, some are lazy and you have to train them.

hi mate,
that is not how it happens for us, we are usually queuing for a minute or so while the last bucket goes on the current truck ,he toots off the truck then he will go for another bucket ,then i get under the bucket . i seem to not be getting the timing right .( i get under the bucket ok and no complaints from the digger driver but i seem to get tired after only a few loads which indicates that i am not timing my run correctly or some such thing.
What do you think? -
That goes both ways,..
Having been the digger,.. there are drivers that will stop out of your reach or come in at an angle to where your bucket wont fit down in the body and force you to drop from a taller height slamming the material into the body.
Most operators will have the bucket in the air waiting for the truck to come into position. My best advise is to use the monkey see monkey doo approach. Look at what the other drivers do, rinse and repeat.
In my experience,.. most drivers look for the ruts and back into the same tracks as the last driver. Wait for the operator to honk or (His horn could be broken) till you feel the material dropping.

You are right of course about all those things.
I have tried to watch what the other operators do but it seems that there must be a finer point that i am not noticing. By the end of the shift i am worn out and reluctant to get under the digger .
It seems as though i cannot work smoothly with the bucket and i feel knocked around a lot,Even though there is no contact with the truck and the digger.(no metal on metal).
I will have to persevere i suppose and maybe it is the same for all.
Cheers for the reply.shogun Thanks this. -
Or if you have radio contact with the digger operator, just ask him what he wants you to do.Haul Trucker 1111 Thanks this. -
well, i did dirt work driving bottom dumps for years. We had to do the same thing. The front end loader can and does come to the truck, you just want to be in a position where the loader doesn't have to travel too far from the pile to your truck obviously. In a perfect world, the loader fills the bucket, backs up, pulls forward to your truck

The digger will position his bucket where he wants you, just back under it, so all he has to do is dump it in your truck.

As with any job, time will make it better. Sounds like you just started. And it will take your body a while to adjust.
Haul Trucker 1111 and Grubby Thank this. -
Why not just ask the operator at the beginnin of yer shift? Im sure he'd be happy ta set ya straight an mebbe give ya a few pointers.
