    I didn't make the post to find out what the individual inquires about me meant but to point out that companies request different things--thank you for the info. As a further example, some companies request a SSN verification. Also, the DAC part of the info HireRight sends drivers contains info the trucking company sends them---with no verification on HireRight's part(my point of contention with HireRight)--sometimes this is the criminal history the trucking company requested--either ten year or lifetime! Back in the '90's a trucking company included part of my military DoD 214 info--why, this was nobody's business!

    If we were talking about a job where you worked at someone premises with other people or were supervised I would agree but with trucking a company it is a bit different.

    A trucking company is forced to entrust you with hundreds of thousands of dollars in their equipment and hundreds of thousands of dollars of their customer’s cargo and to watch you drive off with both. They have to take on the liability of what you might do to some incident 4 wheeler or pedestrian with 80,000 pounds of equipment or with the potential of theft of cargo. There are those who would run off with a load of cigarettes or other high value cargo without giving it a second thought.

    I don’t blame them for checking everything they can. Just part of the business, nothing to take personal.

    Ubu, That's the age old reply people give--hope you feel better giving the company line, didn't impress me one iota---companies have the right to check out potential employees but when they forward info that their former longtime employee provided with expectation of privacy,they are in the wrong ! In my case I had nothing to hide and once contacted by a lawyer, it was removed. At that time it was almost 25 years old and its been years since any employer has asked for my DoD 214.George Orwell's 1984 has become reality and HireRight is one example---Too bad they did such a piss poor job of investigating the shooter at the Naval installation in D.C., I hope the survivors sue HireRight out of existence.

    Company line? :biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

    More like just reality and common sense.

    If I was hiring a driver to drive off with my equipment I would darn sure check everything I could on them and most insurance companies require it as well.

    What information did you give to a former employer with the "expatiation of privacy"? Your DD 214? I have never had an employer ask for my DD 214 and my first trucking job was in 1984 right after I was discharged. I was talking about items that are in the public record, A DD 214 is not a public record but most items on it are (http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/foia-info.html).

    Your issues seem to be with HireRight and I guess one could argue about if an organization like HireRight is legitimate or not but without them a new employer would just contact your former employers directly and get the same information they got from HireRight. At least with HireRight you can check to see what former employers are saying about you in one place and dispute anything you see if its not true (http://www.hireright.com/Disputes/). There are plenty of posts on here of people doing just that without hiring a lawyer. HireRight will remove the item if the employer fails to respond back to your dispute with evidence of their claim.

    If HireRight did not exist you would have no idea what former employers might be saying about you so I'm not so sure how you would be better of without them. With them you found what was being said, who was saying it, and were able to have it removed. Seems like they help you. Your beef should be with the company that was giving out bad or private info in the first place.
