Hey guys, I have a 1500 watt convection oven that I can only use on my inverter(1500 watt) when the truck is idling. (APU isn't enough power)

The thing is, I have to keep hitting the gas pedal to keep the truck running, but after doing that three times, the truck will turn off without giving me a shutdown warning.

Our road assist guy says that I can enable the high idle by "revving it up a little and setting the cruise" but the cruise control can't be enabled unless I'm at 10+mph. Could someone help me out here? Thanks

Trick the truck into thinking you’re in stop and go traffic. Release brakes put in gear then put back in neutral and park brakes. Hopefully it works I’m just throwing ideas.

OMG, such problems for the modern day truck driver, truck won't idle, can't use the stove, or TV and hot tub for that matter. We used to warm a can of beans on the exhaust manifold,,,:p times sure have changed.

Cruise control should be able to set .. Turn it on and press set.. Now press the fuel pedal.. If it doesnt rev up then it is set... Find the tempersture censor and put a hand warmer on it so it glitches out the sensor to think that its to hot.. Most trucks wont idle between 30 degrees and 70 degress.. If above or below then it will stay idling.. Depends how the computer is set up... Or chock ur wheels and release breaks that might work as well

The main this is.. The way auto shutdown works is it reads the ecm.. And if nothing has changed in the ecm and the shutdown isnt being overridden then its going to shutdown the truck... Cruise control usually overrides that process so it never shutsdown.. Thats why when the old timers say to put a brick on the fuel pedal it doesnt work on todays trucks because if the rpms dont flucuate and no process changes in the ecm ( parking breaks set or released, fuel pedal revved, clutch pedal depressed, etc) then it will shutdown the truck... I made when i was up in minnesota it was -70 wind chill my company disabled high idle which in those temepratures i couldnt keep any heat so i pissed in a gstorade bottle and put the lid on it (very important) and i was able to wedge it in between the fuel pedal and the steering column .. But i was able to set it in a way the liquid if i moved the bottle it would keep thr fuel pedal moving up and down slightly incresing and decresing the rpms by 5 or 10 which isnt much but enough to trick the truck and the ecm thinking somebody was pressing the fuel pedal.. It worked for about 3 hours before it got unwedged and fell on the floor , going back to what i said about making sure the lid is on tight lol

    Release the tractor brakes.
    Leave the trailer brakes set.
    Works on ours.
    You can idle all night.

Prime trucks will usually shut off after 5 minutes even if you are in gear and have your foot on the service brake.... Makes your head asplode when the truck shuts off right before traffic starts moving, what a joke.

Maybe you can fit a bigger alternator on the APU, get a couple more batteries, buy a generator, bribe a shop person to allow idle (unlikely), try asking your FM to give the shop ok to change the ide settings, or get a smaller oven.

They don't have the trucks setup to ide between certain ambient temperatures any more so you can't "trick" a sensor.

Wrap your food in aluminum foil(2 or 3 wrappings)place it on the exhaust manifold and by the time you get to where you're going, voila', hot food. Just joking, if you put a stick between the seat and the pedal, won't that work?

For a 1500W microwave you would want at least a 2500W inverter, preferably 3000W constant.
