And during an audit, when the officer compares maintenance records with your receipts and only finds records for the supplies, then looks at your logs and sees no time logged, they can ask WHO did the work. If you say you did it yourself, you just admitted to log falsification. If you claim a friend did the work, depending upon what was done, you might need proof they were certified to do the work. Much easier to show a couple hours on line 4, then at least 34 hours off (because you're home). Do that and it'll CYA without creating any problems with your HOS.

Maybe I'm just lucky but besides fueling,pre/post,and the occasional clean inspection at a weigh station, nothing is logged on duty . Been audited a bunch of times by companies and reviewed by cops; never had a problem
Even loading/unloading is all sleeper birth (as long as its no touch freight)
(Elogs otr driving)^^ -
Audited by companies is different than audited by the DOT...and during a roadside inspection, the officer doesn't have access to your maintenance records or receipts as would be the case in the office. By NOT showing time spent maintaining the truck on line 4 (as required by the regulations), you are leaving the door wide open for an easy violation IF the officer performing the audit wants to push that issue.
...and just because the elogs allow it doesn't mean it is in compliance with the regs.gpf87 Thanks this. -
