If you're going to take a 6 month vacation is there any way to mothball a truck so it doesn't get ruined by sitting so long? What if there was an option to have someone start it and idle it once a week or so but not drive it, would that be any better?

i'd not start it, that'll only create moisture in the oil pan, even in the exhaust pipes. -
6 months wouldn't bother me much. As mentioned, rodent control would be my biggest concern, I'd place bait and traps all over the thing. Either a battery tender or a battery disconnect switch. Run it until it is good and warm and then park it. Cover the stack if you have one.
We park the farm trucks for more than six months every year, and really never have a problem. Other than mice and @##$%@ pack rats. and even squirrels. Check your air filter before starting......Big Road Skateboard, bzinger, TallJoe and 4 others Thank this. -
Get an alarm with remote start.

Can keep the rats away by putting a bright fluorescent light under the rig. I have one under the hood and one under the sleeper. It is set on a timer to come on when the sun goes down and turn off when it's light out.
We have a huge packrat problem down in southwest AZ. They love to eat wiring. Lights keep them away.Bigtruckdrivah, RunningAces, bzinger and 17 others Thank this. -
Requires about monthly bombing, but peppermint oil on a bunch of cotton balls works relatively well for rodents as well, keeps it minty fresh smelling too

Your title brings to mind actual moth balls
I have know people who store cars and will fill sox with moths balls and hang them from the bottom of the cars
Supposedly the smell deters rodents
No idea for sure but maybe the Google Monster knowsRunningAces, 77fib77, TallJoe and 1 other person Thank this. -
I find that leaving the cb on and full volume helps a lot with the mice. But you have to be in range of other peoples conversations and it will run the battery down but will take months

I left a '03 Columbia parked at my brother's place when I went to work in Iraq 2005-07. I jacked up the axles just enough to get the tires off of the dirt ground. Sealed the air intake and exhaust stack. Had a maintenance charger plugged in ( still ended up having to buy new batteries but I expected that). The feral cats keep the mice out of everything there.
When I came back, I was concerned about wheel seals drying out and leaking but never had any issues.Magoo1968, RunningAces and larry2903 Thank this.
