I've heard suggestions that I shouldn't even touch the engine brake, but then what AM I supposed to do?! Service brakes will burn up without the engine brake.

    This will be interesting...

Maybe the idea of driving on ice needs to be considered a huge safety issue and either stop until the road is cleared by the State Department of Transportation Highways maintenance crew.

I wouldnt want any driver out there being a cowboy with a high value load and lacking experience to know when to shutdown.

Never going to learn until you get out there and do it. No amount of "training" can substitute for real-world experience. It's fine to be shown the basics (the obvious), but only actual drive time is ever going to count towards experience.

It's rather ridiculous that someone gave this person an automatic, with no training.

    Lepton1 and DustyRoad Thank this.

I was issued an auto with no training. Driven stick since 1980. But they suggested a few DVD's they had upstairs but these were less then useless. Autos are something "you just have to get out there and do it" There's several ways to run them down hills and also a few ways to run them on ice. Talk to 4 different people, you will get 4 different methods.

Fortunately I ran a lot up on 80 and 90 coast to coast during winter driving conditions. I also never crashed my truck. So basically I would drive 35 with jakes on downhill only if it was packed snow. Never on ice!

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Demand your shop foreman mount studded snows all the way around cause your brakes are toast without using an engine brake. J/K
