I guess I could and it would save me around 50 bucks per month.

So how would I pay and create paystubs? Simply do direct deposit and email a simple document as a paystub?

Yes. And get rid of your accountant and replace him with the one on this link.

By the way, my name happens to be Lucien. I'm the guy he wrote about in that story.

See, even accountants can learn. 56 years ago Subsistence never existed.

You could pay your driver a portion of his wages as subsistence. It would be tax free to him and for every $1.05 you pay him you get 5 cents back as GST input Tax Credit.

Toronto Trucker: I attended United College in Winnipeg. Both of the businesses were highly successful. I certainly do not rely on trucking for the income. I could make as much as a Wal Mart Greeter. I enjoy traveling and sitting at home would turn me into an old bugger. We are Snowbirds and spend the winters in our home in Mexico. Lucien could teach you more in 15 minutes than you could learn on your own in a year! I wish you success but just cannot understand why you did not do the research before starting the business. You don't need an MBA figure that out. I also would not rely on a telephone call to CRA for correct info. It is not binding. You need it in writing. The Gov. has cracked down on this contractor stuff for years. An honest employer would not try to cheat his employees. They are fools for working as contractor. Have to pay both parts of CPP. Not subject to any of the Ontario Labor regulations that may apply to truckers ( min. wage . No protection provided by Federal Labor laws ( not that much of that is very good!) Please explain why you want an employee to be a contractor? Most of the small outfits following that practice are sleazes. You sound like a nice fellow , albeit naïve.

Well it sounds like his driver asked to be paid that way. But .44 cents minus all his taxes and stuff is a crappy wage which I can't believe the guys working that cheap....

Also: Cell phone provided or monthly reimbursement? Is he paying hub miles or Practical? Layover? Detention? Border delay? Any benefits? Does he have a drug program? Who pays tolls and scaling? There is more!
