I'm in No Cal & currently drive 13 ton truck. I really want to get my class A but, the schools are super expensive & offer virtually nothing in the way of finical assistance. Not getting enough hours at my current job to save up the tuition. Am I doomed to be stuck w/a class C? :biggrin_2553:
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I too am in NorCal, I'm looking at companies like Prime, Central and Watkins & Shepard that prefer to train students themselves and offer partial or complete reimbursement of school costs in trade for working for them for a period of time. Maybe you should look into something like that. Hope that helps =)

Here's how I am getting my truck school funded by the Federal government: In Oregon, we have a place called the Job Council (they're actually in the same building as the state employment office in my town). They have people who help distribute Obama's Workforce Investment Act funds on the local level. Funds to attend trucking school cannot be paid through US Department of Education funds (except truck courses at Community Colleges), as those are reserved for colleges and universities. The Job Council INSTEAD helps allocate vocational rehabilitation funds that come from the US Department of Labor. Some trucking schools are on the approved list for funding, others are not. I wanted to attend truck school at CR England in Salt Lake City, but they are not on the approved list of schools for funding. Sooooooo....the Job Council is going to use a back door approach to fund my training. The school costs roughly around $3000. So the Job Council is going to pay $3000 of my mortgage/utility payments to help me get trained instead, thus freeing up my money to pay for the school myself. This is how I am going to do it.

All of the above literally took an act of congress. I wrote to my congressmen and senators, and their staff pointed me in the right direction. You can find a local Job Council (or One-Stop Career Center---whatever they call it in your state) by going to this web site:

That's how to get your training funded by the Federal government.

Your local One-Stop Career Center (found through the link above) has the list of approved schools for the funding. If you are interested in schools in another state, then you would have to email/phone a query to a One-Stop Career center in that state, however.....most states have residency requirements to get funding for schools within their state. This was a double whammy for me, because (a) CR England in Salt Lake is NOT on the Utah approved list, PLUS (b) I am not a resident of that state. However, as I stated in my first post, the coordinator of my local One Stop Career Center is going to pay for it through the back door by paying $3000 of my mortgage payments instead, thus freeing up my own money to use for the truck school of my choice. Apparently, they can spend that money on mortgage/utilities to help you get through school. If you meet resistance in one center, go to another one in your state, because I am a first hand witness that it CAN be done.
