Just a question for you all. For more less anyone who in Ontario.

Looking to perhaps change careers later one. And go into the truck driving deal.

Now i know u don't need to do a trucking school to get the DZ or AZ licence in Ontario
but its better and some of us don't know anyone with a truck

but those truck schools are tuitions is $7800

how does the system work, right now i am still full employed at my workplace
but if i were to go on EI and leave my present job
would i be able to attend trucking school for free? by govt paying for it or system?

how does that work? where can i find links and information on that idea?
    thanks

or do i have to pay for i all out of my pocket.
    cheers

Pay out of pocket, go to Alberta and pay it off in one month. Worked for me and much quicker than waiting for EI approval.

I don't think you can just quit your current employment. Also when I took the course through ei they do not pay for the full program you ate responsible for 1/3 of the total cost. So if your course is 7800 you will have to come up with 2600 of your own money.

I got mine about 10 years ago now on EI.. Full course was paid for ($20,000 course for AZ and Machinery course).. Plus my living expenses... It was great back then you could get away with more then you can now... BUT I was laid off and couldn't find work... You can't quit your company, you quit your company and your not eligible for EI benefits..

The system is a little more tight about money due to the increase of unemployment.. I had 2 friends go and they were denied the benefits. More research (on your behalf) needs to be done for one and they make sure you REALLY can't get a job in your field as well before handing over money....

You can always find a company who pays for your trying if you sign up with them.. You might have to sign a contract with them or something stating you'll stay there for XX amount of months/years... These companies usually don't pay as well.. But it's a way to get free education from it...

    This is in Ontario BTW

I tried to get EI to pay mine in BC, the program ran out of funding so they offered me 200 of the 4k i applied for. The new program starting April is strict. They will make you use RSP's, check spousal income, make you take student loans etc...

I just paid for it myself due to all the red tape. Now i just need a job...

Head to Alberta get on the service rigs, get some time behind the wheel on your down days, company will normally supply a truck for your test. Why go on EI to do something you can do yourself and make a good living while doing so? Years ago my brother did that while making over $30.00 per hour.
