If you buy fuel from a O/O then he is selling something he paid for and thus owns. The tax has been paid so no stealing IMO. A buck a gallon is taking advantage of a desperate person and that is ethically questionable IMHO.
Buying fuel from someone who does not own it is theft period. You can't spin it , if you buy it you are a thief.Knowing what ethics are does not mean you have them , if you can switch them on and off all it means is that you can fake them.
As to what business it is of any one if you are a thief.Well it means you don't honor ownership rights and therefore don't honor my rights and therefore it is my business.

I only wish what youre saying was true. Being an O/O with only 2 trucks I try very hard to make sure that I stay on top of my equipment. This ensures job security for my driver and I; which also ties up a great deal of money. Even still my target goal each week is to make sure that my driver doesn't take home less than a $1000 a wk. Since Jan 2011 my driver hasn't made under $1200 and the most has been $1700 all within a 7 day period.
So tell me why isn't my truck getting good fuel mileage or why when I ask the tanks are always # a 1/4 or between E and 1/4? Why did my fuel jump from $1500 wk to $2100 and running the same lanes? -
Sounds like you are gonna be looking for a new driver before long. Cause that one is taking serious advantage, ya?

My specialty as a USAF cop was crime prevention. I learned a lot about people committing crimes, and most crimes are "crimes of opportunity", involving people who would not normally commit a crime. For example... some guy in the mall drops his wallet, you find it, there's $100 cash in it.. you think about it for 10 seconds, take the cash out and then turn the wallet in to mall security or the info desk. Hey, the guy got his wallet back, right?
Now... on the fuel issue, this is not a situation where someone makes a split second decision to do something he wouldn't normally do. This is a planned, thought out procedure where a driver has to "pad" his fuel to only need a little bit so he can sell a bunch, then advertise it in some way, and then do the drug deal handshake to get the money and exchange the fuel. This is NOT a crime of opportunity...
On the recieving side, you're as guilty as the guy ripping off his company - you're making it possible for him to do it.
Let's say you have a neighbor, known him a long time, had BBQ and beers with him, and he owns several trucks. You see one of his drivers at a truckstop the next state over selling fuel to someone. What would you do? The guy buying that fuel and having it stolen from him is your friend? Personally, I'd call 911, and make sure that his driver and the guy getting the fuel were busted. I'd write down all the info on both trucks to make sure nothing was missed.
Now, for the sake of the trucking brotherhood, I'll treat ALL of you as my neighbor, and if I see someone selling fuel, I'll call the cops. Deal with it. If you have a problem with my involvement, you low life piece of crap, I'll be glad to discuss it with you in person.... but we'd better hurry and get your butt whooping out of the way... the cops are on their way to see you.brsims Thanks this. -

Being someone who has showed up at their truck in the morning (daycab) to find about 100 gallons siphoned and catwalk barely walkable due to spilled fuel (flatbedder, im up there a few times a day) if i see someone stealing fuel from anyone, im getting all the info i can and maybe some video of it on my phone and calling the cops. If its my truck, i have a breaker bar for that. As far as 'buying' fuel off a company driver, its still theft, both the seller and puchaser being theives.

The cops are on their way AFTER I've dealt with them... I don't need anyone investigating for me - most regular cops (no disrespect) wouldn't understand the scenario of selling fuel.

Nope, isn't happening.
