So you are pissed off and crazy mad at your company, you're gonna quit and show them what you think!

Hold On! protect you DAC and your bank account.

    1. Never abandon your truck or equipment.
    2. Ask for time off at the yard location.
    3. Continue being a 'good' driver employee.
    4. When back at the yard clean out your truck.
    5. Go Home or hotel, arrange transport if you don't have a car at the yard.
    6. Watch for the next few days to ensure your pay is deposited in bank or take it off the comdata card.
    7. When all pay recieved go to yard and get truck inspected.
    8. Quit respectfully however much it sucks.
    9. You can scream and shout and think you feel great but you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Take pictures, I have had success at getting them to sign that the truck has been returned in good condition. I agree that you need the truck back in there yard, and leave it clean. If the load is in there yard when you quit you are not abandoning their load.

Normally I don't play games with them I want a clean break for both. Using a written 10 day notice is proper business protocol, However personally I don't believe in giving them any more notice than they would give you. I would be best, but I don't. When I'm done I'm done. I don't quit for no reason, so I have normally told them If you do that again I'm out of here and when they do it, I'm gone.

Very good advice.Make sure you have all your money before they know you are quitting.I came in on payday once with a company that no longer exists JMS Truckline of Jackson,MS.I cleaned out my truck late at night without witnesses and went home for a week and got my last check. They called and asked if I had quit and I said no I just don't have enough money to get back to Jackson if you will send me the money you owe me when I bought fuel on my debit card I can return. They said ok and sent me a com check for $250 after I cashed that check I mailed their fuel card to them with a happy face on a sticky note that said " MO Money "

I will add that in this industry with the DAC system you never want to burn bridges. Whenever I have quit I always give notice, and try and work to the last day of the notice, but some companies will screw you on miles because your leaving. In that case I will tell my dispatcher that im trying to give the company the respect of a notice, but if they don't want to run me then route me to the yard and I will clean the truck out.

Your DAC is a good driver's best reference if you have a clean MVR no accidents, years of mountain experience which is on the DAC also, what another trucking company representive might put on there bears little weight.Unless you have several saying the same things.

:biggrin_25514:BIGRIGGER, you just beat them to the punch because those guys would do it unto you in a heartbeat. Glad they got a little of their own medicine.:biggrin_2559:

Boy how the times have changed!!! You had to play rough back when that outfit was still around. I never drove for them but I knew others who did. Most around the area were pretty much the same though.

This is a great subject to read about and to write about! I did this in another thread so here is the link for the whole start to finish with a BFI company! http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s-advice/94252-what-do-when-you-get-your.html

But the best steps are like what Dryver, Power and Big put in but if you want a "list here goes!

You know you want to quit and go or do something else as BFI isn't pulling your string any more or is pushing buttons better left alone!
    * Get a load or home time at the house!

*clean out the truck to a condition that is almost as good as new! Yes you were given a POS I can feel for you BUT this BFI POS company can charge you tons of money to "clean the truck" saying you left it in a terrible condition. Now if you're a "pig" don't bother, just follow the rest of the steps to quit! OH keep enough clothing and things to be able to carry on the bus but leave the rest of the junk at home! Unless you have a car at the yard then just go to the next step!

    * Inspect the truck from bumper to bumper documenting any and all scratches, rock dings and paint chips, cracks or chips in the windshield, TIRE WEAR! And NOT just one top view! Take pictures of the tires from the top then get in truck and roll it about 3 feet and take pictures again. This way you have all 360* of the tire and also take pictures from the sides to show the whole tire and rim!

*Take pictures of the whole truck! Inside and out! But try to have pictures of a clean truck, especially on the inside! These pictures should back up the pictures you took of the truck when it was issued to you!

*The first day you are home write a NICE letter to the human resources department or who ever does the hiring and firing there. DO NOT VENT as to the birth accounts of people, where they need to stick certain things in an impossiable prosition, talk about someones mother, father, their sexual preference ,their horizional versus vertical height challengages, their race or national heritage and so on! You need to write this letter as if you have an education! Use your spell checker! Use punctuation and grammar! If you send in something that looks like a first grader wrote it they'll trash it! OR use the copy I put in for you to use. Just fill in the blanks. Just remember you don't want to say things that will make it really easy for BFI to kill your chances to get another job or ding your DAC! The same when you get to the yard. Be NICE see further down!

*MAIL the termination letter it at the post office with a RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED form with internet tracking (you'll spend a few dollars but it's worth it in the long run!) This is going to CYA when BFI says they fired you or you abandoned the truck which you are NOT going to do I hope! MAKE A COPY OF IT, NOT a computer copy! You want your signature and that date on it! Then when the receipt comes back to you staple it to the copy of the letter. This is your CYA that you gave notice with your intentions. And DO NOT USE EMAIL! The old "we didn't get email" works even if you use the "receipt" setting! Snail mail gives you paper that the gooberment handled and can be used in a court of law. Yes, old technoligies work better than new in this case!

    * After you send the RRR at the post office You can track the letter through the internet and as soon as the letter is signed for send in a notice on the QC. This might be better as if they send back a "get back now and clean out the truck email" as you just got eligible for unemployment! You gave them a 2 week date and they brought you in and "let you go ahead of the 2 week date" they basically "fired you" so they screwed up! Ya gotta love certain rules!

*Burn a copy of these pictures to a CD and give it to the company when you get in and if you so feel like it you can make a few "pictures" at walmart or print them out on your own paper so they know there is a record of a clean, in repair, not abandoned in BFE truck but of one on their lot and get it signed for! Or try to!

I put a receipt form you can copy also but don't be surprised when they refuse to sign for it! Me, I'd hold on the Comm Data card untill they sign for it also! Just add it to the form with the numbers!

    * If you know the company likes to "charge" for all kinds of crapola as we've all seen in here especially these BFI fleece companies, it is well worth your money to take the truck to a GOOD shop and have it inspected the day of or day before you turn it in. If a DOT certified company says tires with 90% thread and company mechanic says 40% then someone has a problem and it's not going to be you! Remember those pictures you took and the inspection? OH! use a penny in your pictures when taking the tire thread depth pictures! and spend a dollar fopr a local newspaper and put it in the pictures like kidnappers do! That is better than the time stamp on the camera OR if you have a GPS enabled camera then a few pictures on their property with the codes embedded in the picture is really great! I just read about this in the news yesterday and it helps you out! You can't fake GPS embedded coding in that picture of the truck in front of their office or company sign!

Now I watched one driver a few years back with a BFI that knew his DAC was going to show an abandonment actually cause enough trouble that the company screwed up and called the police to have him removed from the property and then lied on his DAC he abandoned the truck half way across America! He had a copy of the arrest report with the same date of this abandonment with the address of the company in the plaintiff section on it which was a little funny so DAC had no problem in clearing it off his report and he was hired not to long after DAC cleared it up! I just don't recommend having the police called out on you self. It's highly over rated!

BE NICE! Yes even the biggest redneck or biker type can be nice! Don't think for a minute that the Nazi tatt or the rags for that bad arse biker group or your size is going to matter! You are in a position that if you're NICE it'll make a big difference, but open that mouth or start to attempt to remove someones head from their shoulders to pee down their neck then jail is the next destination for you and I really hate jails away from home! Well I hate jails period but still, in far away places the time and money needed just isn't worth the mayhem you oh so tried to inflict worth it on someone not worth the trouble anyway even if he so needed to have his posterior raised above his head!

To summarize (man do I sound smart or what!) With the trouble these BFI's can inflict on you, you MUST cover your arse! Unless you could care less about burning bridges. Follow the rules for quitting a job. Give 2 weeks notice in writing but use the Postal Service as your back up. Pictures are worth a thousand words! Signed receipts are worth even more. A clean DAC and good recommendation form the company is even better!

Don't let your mouth over load your six! Yeah we know that BFI bites big time but do you really think they care if you have a big mouth? Or are a bad arse? NOPE!

All I can say is be freaking nice! Just cover your arse! Take the steps and get as many of them checked off as you can! just BE NICE for once in your life!
