How do you quote hazmat tanker loads? Is it a per mile or a flat fee for a certain range of miles. Should you add in a fuel surcharge? Please help!

By the gallon........usually. Fuel surcharges are ok , but fuel is dirt cheap now. No shipper gonna want to pay one now.

Roughly, very roughly, charge by the mile on longer loads and flat rate for the local hauling. If you're hauling to construction sites or off road, charge by the hour.
If you're getting into the tanker business you should have a good idea of your customer base, their locations, and the time involved for each load. If you have a lot of travel time to reach the loading point, figure that into the rate also.
If you're doing any off-road work charge by the hourLast edited: Apr 24, 2020
Flat Earth Trucker and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
High as hell.
You talking actual tanker loads? -
Include demurrage. (Detention). First two hours free than after the 1/2 hour start charging. I had a lot of demurrage going to chemical plants.
