Am I missing something here ? ANYONE can get a CDL. Criminal record doesn't matter, right ? It's the job that will be just about impossible to get.

I see this type of question all the time wondering if they can get a job with a felony. Something that I have not noticed is, if that person gets his own truck and authority what are his or her chances of working in the industry now. If they try and haul for example Landstar, are they going to look into the driver, or the company, or both?

If the driver has a past, is that going to make the company not qualify for loads with Landstar or another comany like that.

Landstar runs an extensive background check, so that wouldn't work. The only way to get into it would be totally on your own.

Use to be biggest issue was insurance companies. Now it's insurance and CSA. You can get a CDL but is there a point if no one will hire you? Your gonna be sitting out for a good 3-5 years. And even then you better have a spotless MVR and a good work history to compensate.

Why do you say that you will be sitting out for 3-5 years?

Because I, for one, haven't seen a company that will hire within 5 years of a "gentle" felony, this one involved a firearm... and many companies are 7-10 years, or not at all.

I just killed my neighbor with a chainsaw when he wouldn't pay me for the heroin I delivered. Do you think there's any chance I can drive again when I escape from prison? Do companies mind if you wear chains and shackles to an interview?
