A lot of people don’t know that the Autocar was the original front wheel drive truck with an auto trans (hence the Auto in the name). The rear wheels were free rolling until you installed the axles and c clips when the weight dictated. They started with a 290 Cummins and a th400 with a modified bell housing. They were getting 20+ mpg when they added the gear vendors overdrive. Big oil bought out the patent.

Not sure what speed u got but my 8 speed i turn corners in 3rd or 4th sometimes 5th if im feelin like bo duke..downshifting is a combo between road speed and rpm,, i like to downshift @ 1000rpm thats the bottom end of my gears, rev to 14-15 rpm is top range of gears... I know that if i need to take a downgrade @ 35mph i need to be in 6th gear because thats the top range of the rpms for that gear around 1400 , iwill gain to much speed in 7th because thats bottom range in 7th around 900 rpm and...After awhile u will see the patterns of which gears are good at which speeds and it will become second nature to u and u wont even have to think about it..the more speeds u got the more control u got over the truck, thats my opinion, but my 8 speed can only do so much....after awhile of getting good at shifting u will have some days where u grind every ####in gear there is to grind and then other days u could go all day without grinding... but take pride in drivin a stick shift its alot of automatics drivers out there that couldnt shift a stick if they had a monkey doin it for them...

I think the logical guess is a 6x4 with the auxiliary reversed. Or maybe a 15 speed deep reduction with 10th against the dash?:dontknow:

Turn off the stereo until shifting is second nature .. once you learn how to hear the engine noise you will shift without thinking about it .. also a downshift or upshift does not need to be done fast .. slow and steady becomes very smooth over time

Um, did you read the first sentence in my post?

And yes, if it's out of gear at 35 8th would work to get it back in.

Sure. I'm still confused though, you said you could use 8th on a 10 speed....it HAS to be a 10 speed, correct?

Now were you referring to a super 10 (14610B), a RTLO 16910C or B ratio, or a FRO 16210B or was it a FR series 10 speed. Maybe just a regular RT14710B...cause that to me makes all the difference.

Do you think this idea would still work in my friends international with 2:64 gears and a super 10 on tall 24.5 tires versus Fro16210c with 3:73 gears on stand up 22.5 tires?

Do you think a flux capacitor would work better on a Volvo or Autocar?

    7-UP and shogun Thank this.
