A tire failed on a tractor I was driving back in April. Two vehicles were damaged by the debris and one had to be towed. I was told by two officers at the scene that I was not being ticketed and I was not at fault. I am just hearing about this DOT reportable stuff. How do I report it?

    Thanks

I may be wrong, but most of the time either the carrier reports it or the investigating law enforcement agency handles it. Regardless if you are ticketed or not, that does not determine whether it's a D.O.T. reportable incident or not. It may take some time, but I would be willing to bet the agency that investigated the mishap will ensure the incident is on your record. If it was your responsibility they would have given you instructions on how to accomplish it. Sometimes it takes awhile for stuff like that to show on your DAC, but it will in time.

it will show on your DAC and CSA but it should be NON PREVENTABLE and should cause you no harm with either.

I pull over right away then called break down. They told me they they could not fix a tire on the NY thruway and that the next exit was a couple of miles ahead. That is when it happened. I should have told him that I am not moving the truck.

    Thanks

Don't let these drivers scare you with their "DAC this" and "DAC that". Nothing goes on your DAC unless the company reports it. A small percentage of trucking companies use HireRight services. Mostly just the mega carriers.

at least if he reports it himself he doesnt have to wait and be suprised if he leaves the company he's working for and all of a sudden it pops up everywhere because he's no longer an employee...us drivers know how happy our previous companys are with us when we leave:)

They love us to death. Meaning, wait 5 years, refresher, trainer, start driving again on your own. OH how I remember how driving was the first time.

    Gotta love life.

How fast were you driving after they told you to move the truck? Put on the 4-ways and limp along to the next available exit in a situation like that. Not only will it minimize damage to the truck (mud flaps, air bags, etc.) but it will reduce the velocity of "ejecting materials". Decades ago I read a story of a baby that was killed by debris flying off a truck with a blown tire. Stay safe out there...

    I was going very slow.

I still don't get it. Who's responsibility is it to report this since it is DOT reportable? If it is mine then how do I do it or how do I find out who's responsibility it is?

    Thanks
