Would I like an APU, oh god yea but its not a must to me. I have an inverter and like last night, I run my truck below certain temps. The cold doesnt bug me, its more for the truck.

Most idle laws and policies allow you to idle if the temps are too extreeme in one direction or the other.

My company's trucks mostly have APU's but they just put me in a brand new Volvo and the brand of APU they were using has just had a recall so I've been without an APU for the past month. I can idle if I want to but with a sheet, 2 comforters and an unzipped sleeping bag on top of the comforters, I can comfortably sleep even if it's below freezing. Summer, that's a different story, anything over 72 and I will idle to keep cool.

Use to use a 1000 watt inverter and a small fan at night if under 78-80 deg. otherwise I idled. Winter I had an bunk espar bunk heater but once it got much below 20 deg. I idled just to know that the engine would start and already be warm.

I idle and refuse to run in states with no idling laws . The carrier will pay for IdleAir if available .
